So in all of the stress about my job and my visa, the one thing I'm trying to do is handle it in a healthy way, by going to the gym as much as I can. The one positive thing about this job loss is that due to all of the stress, I've lost 10 lbs, and I figure I might as well try to capitalize on that.
So I've been going to a spin class offered at my gym on Monday afternoons. I have no idea why a class is held at 12:30 PM on a weekday, but there always are a fair number of people there. Yet it's never overcrowded (like many spin classes are), so I always enjoy going at that time.
I always wear a heart-rate monitor when I work out, which mostly has the advantage of telling me quite how much I'm dying when I go to these spin classes. I can see why they are popular, but yet they are killer! Particularly yesterday the instructor really seemed to enjoy taking it out of us, as noticed by my final stats at the end of the class.
Duration: 42 min
Avg HR: 164
Max HR: 183
Calories burned: 503
Keep in mind that for your average 30-year old, a target cardio heart-rate is 152, so I was really killing myself there. But wow, definitely burned a lot of calories very quickly! So what if I could barely walk at the end of the class and am still feeling a bit stiff today? It was a heck of a workout!
