Saturday night was another party with the Young Dutchman and his brother, a house party where over half of the people present spoke Dutch. It was funny when I first arrived, I was greeted enthusiastically with three kisses by one of the flatmates, a ridiculously handsome guy with shaggy blonde hair, could have been a classic poster-boy for your stereotypical surfer. He explained to me later that he mistook me for being Dutch, a notion that was quickly put to rest when it was revealed I didn't speak a word of the language. Too bad, he was quite good-looking (but probably far too young for me!)
It was loads of fun, just the classic time of circulating and talking to people, and it lasted until 4 AM. No particular boys to capture my interest, but good conversations with lots of interesting folks. It was very funny because this new girl from the club was there, and very drunkenly at 3 AM started going on and on about, "I don't understand how a girl as pretty and as nice as you is single!" I'm always amused at how this fact seems way more distressing to other people than it does to me. (The answer to that one is simple folks: The right boys never ask me out, but the wrong ones always do. Yet I always sort of resent the question, because it implies that boys don't ask me out. Am I just supposed to go out with whoever asks me, regardless of how little I like them back?)
I gave her a few platitudes and was grateful when the Young Dutchman then grabbed me to drag me somewhere else. That boy always seems to know when I need rescuing. At the end of the evening, I got the brilliant idea that I should walk home. After all, the party wasn't that far from my house, and my feet didn't hurt that badly... But they sure did around 5 AM when I finally made it home! It was ridiculous, as the sun was coming up by the time I stumbled to my front door.
When leaving, I ran into the surfer-blonde Dutchman on the street, we seemed to have a funny way of running into each other throughout that evening! It was shortly after I sent the Young Dutchman home with some girl at 4 AM (but insisted he had to take his brother too, as I live in fear of ending up with the Young Dutchman's brother on my couch), and had to laugh when the Young Dutchman called me the next morning, as it seems the rest of the evening was spent figuring out what on earth to do with his brother while he also had the girl. I guess it worked out though (or perhaps it didn't, since I was getting a call first thing in the morning? He he!)
