Last night I was SUPPOSED to go to a Younger Member's Committee drinks event at my club, but with my flatmate away, and just being stressed about job applications and paperwork, I decided to just stay in. Sometimes you want to be a little bit misanthropic... Although I did end up having a video chat with a co-worker in Argentina, which was really lovely, where we just talked about me leaving and caught up on Gossip Girl together. The toughest part about this whole redundancy has been that I will be leaving my fabulous team in Argentina, particularly this girl, whose wedding I flew down there for. Yet in many ways it was nice to have just that little casual chat, to remember that even at the end of all of this, we're still going to be friends, even if we'll no longer be co-workers.
I also texted the guy I met on the Tube and invite him out to a book launch party I'm going to on Thursday, but I haven't heard back from him. Not surprising, I suppose, for if you don't hear from a girl in three weeks and suddenly she invites you to an event with a bunch of her other friends, the message is probably pretty clear.
My Oxford degree certificate still hasn't shown up, and the Home Office only accepts originals. I'm really starting to lose sleep over this, as if it can't be found, that means no visa application, and no visa means deportation.
And just to add to all of the fun, I found out that my good friend from college, Jen Taylor, is getting married, but she sent both the Save-the-Date card and the wedding invite to my old address. So the question becomes, do I buy a last-minute ticket to Chicago for the wedding? It's in two weeks, and I can do it, but it seems absolutely crazy to fly from London to Chicago for a weekend! But yet, Jen is a good friend, and I'd love to be there. What to do, what to do?
