Long Journey Home

Jess had to leave on an 8 AM flight, and so needed to be up at 5:30 AM to catch a cab at 6 AM to the airport. I got up to say good-bye and send her off, but was quite grateful when she left me with the key and told me to go back to bed and check myself out later!

Although it was somewhat hard to get back to sleep, I managed it for a little bit, and then got up, showered, and made my way out to the bus stop to catch a bus out to Margaret and Nigel's place, as I was going to meet them for breakfast. I'd forgotten that buses in Edinburgh only take exact change, but luckily by adding up all of my lose change, I turned out to have bus fare exactly!

I got to Margaret and Nigel's place, and we then walked out to one of their favourite brunch places, where I had a lovely fry-up (with more haggis, of course!!) Had a good time talking to them and about their lives now that they were married, and it's so sweet to see such a lovely couple that I like doing so well together. Even more lovely was at the end of breakfast Nigel said to me, "Let us buy you breakfast, please say yes!" which was so sweet of them, although totally ruined my plan to get some spare change by paying for my share of breakfast!

I then went back to Margaret and Nigel's place where Margaret had to change and run off to go horseback riding, and I just hung out chatting to Nigel for a bit. Really great guy, I think Margaret is a very lucky girl (as he's a lucky guy!)

Then I went to walk downtown (I needed to come up with spare change somehow for the bus), and by totally random chance saw Arleen, a girl I know from Clubland, through the window of a restaurant as I walked by! I popped in to say hello, as we just kept exclaiming how random it all was. A run-in like that would have been unusual enough in London, but in Ediburgh it was nothing short of extraordinary. I mean, if I'd had bus fare instead of walking, if I'd been on the other side of the street...the number of coincidences there were off the charts.

But I can't help but wonder if it were somehow fate, because Arleen is a real social organizer in Clubland, yet we've never really properly been introduced to become friends to become FB friends for me to get all of the invites. So now with finally such an extraordinary connection, I sent her a FB message, we became friends, and she invited me to her birthday party next month, which I'm sure will be an event with lots of familiar faces. Looking forward to it already!

At last though, it was time for me to catch my train, so at 4 PM in Waverly station, I got on the train, found my seat, and settled in to read my book for the long journey home. Which turned into a REALLY long journey, as instead of being 5.5 hours, the train was delayed for nearly 2 hours en route, hence it was almost midnight before we finally pulled into King's Cross! Apparently we'll get partial refunds of our tickets, but it was quite annoying!!

Still, the Tube was still running, so made it back to my flat without any problems, having thoroughly enjoyed my little weekend away!
