The All-Nighter

When I arrived home at nearly 1 AM, I could really have just been ready to go to bed at that point. Yet I was greeted by a message from my new boss, revealling that I'd misunderstood what she needed, and something else entirely was really what she'd asked for.

To be honest, this was mostly my own fault. I've become so accustomed to NOT working, that a job that requires me to put in time and effort has come as a total shock. Now admittedly, the ramp-up is somewhat slow (thank goodness!), but putting in just two hours a day of work is just no longer cutting it. And I'd tried to get away with that, sent out something absolutely crap before I had to run off and meet C Dogg, and has been called out on it.

My new boss at least took this as a "I may not have explained this clearly," but I knew if I wanted to salvage my reputation, there was only one thing to do: Stay up all night and do it properly. I hadn't really done an all-nighter in quite a while, but I was luckily still pretty hyped up after staying up talking with C Dogg, and now it was time to work.

I finished sometime around 6 AM, and flopped into bed for 2-3 hours of sleep before I had to struggle back awake and keep going for yet another day. (Alas, perhaps the genuine all-nighters like I used to do in college, where I would simply keep right on going for the next day, are behind me).

Still, I managed to have a reasonably productive day, but was ready to crash pretty early. So I was surprised as I was getting ready for bed when my flatmate tapped on my door and asked, "Can we talk?"

Apparently after I had made sure the bathroom was absolutely spotless and the kitchen was all cleaned up and everything put away, she decided to initiate a confrontation because the kitchen counters seemed slightly dingy, not thoroughly wiped down. No visible dirt or stains, but not sparkling. Keep in mind, our cleaner was due to come the very next day.

At first I just stared at her, hoping that she might have a moment of self-realization that she sounded totally insane. Alas, no such self-insight seemed to be forthcoming, so I grudgingly went back and polished the counters, and then once again calculated the days until I could move out!
