In the morning, I recognized that I needed to actually go get the keys to my new place. My new flatmate said she was going out to the gym, but left them for me under the back wheel of her bike. So it was kind of nice that she wasn't home as I went in for the first time to check out my new place.
And as soon as I saw the room with my new bed, I gave an annoyed sigh of frustration. Because I'd repeatedly told my new landlord that I wanted a bed with a bedstead, not a divan, as then I could put the bed up on risers and use the space underneath for storage. But of course, what had he done? Gone and gotten a bed with a divan!!
At the very least, this divan did have four under-bed drawers for storage, but to give me any sort of space in the room, I would want to push the bed over into the far corner, which meant that two of the drawers would be completely useless for storage. I checked at how hard it would be to put the divan up on risers, but since the thing was one of those types that can split in half, I could see no way to rise it up without it collapsing in the middle. No headboard either, which is something I've really come to appreciate in my current bed, so I can be propped up in bed and work.
The mattress as well was nowhere near as nice as the one I've currently been sleeping on, but given that it's only a few months old, I suppose that's not a surprise. This one was obviously just not as nice, although when I lay on it, it was nowhere near as bad as the mattress that had been in my current place when I moved in, so I suppose it's all a fair compromise.
Finally, just annoyed and frustrated, I went home again. And I suppose it was mostly the sad frustration of realising that the place I'm moving into is nowhere near as nice as where I currently live. Perhaps an indication that the next time I move, it should really be into a place I own. How I hope I can manage to make that happen.
Spent the rest of the day doing some grocery shopping, getting some work done, doing some cooking, and talking to my parents on the phone. And finally catching up on my blog as well, which I seem to rely far too much on lazy Sunday afternoons to keep up with!
