In the morning, I was very proud of myself for getting up and going to Body Pump, but as I stood outside the gym studio with everyone else waiting for the class to start, when at the last minute a guy from the front desk came over and apologized, but the Body Pump instructor had called in sick at the last minute. As an alternative, he offered that we might consider going to spin class. Nobody seemed particularly keen on that, but since I knew I wouldn't do anything with myself if I didn't have somebody yelling at me, I in the end decided to go for it, and survived a very torturous class!
Yet after that, there was nothing much to do, as it was a rainy day outside, and the Tube strike was beginning. So I stayed indoors and spent much of the day working on programming a video of my baby niece, using footage that my brother had given me when I'd been there at the end of August visiting. I'm actually rather pleased with how it turned out:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzDOWd597Sk
I had originally been supposed to go out that evening to go to a dinner with friends in Brick Lane, but after the Tube strike came about, we decided to cancel. After all, whilst we might be able to make it out to Brick Lane, we wouldn't want to get stuck out there!
I then had the alternative option of going to a birthday party for a friend from Clubland, but again I was worried about the state of the Tube. None of the news updates I was getting seemed to be giving the real-time situation, so I had the inspired idea to check Twitter. Would you believe, suddenly that whole technology made sense to me? There were instant, real-time updates from people out there travelling, all about what was going on out there. Which definitely made it sound like I shouldn't bother trying to go out into the mess.
So instead, the movie "27 Dresses" was showing on television, so I sat down to watch it with Emily, and she even fed me dinner. How nice! (Although once again, how confusing! I never understand why Emily is so eager to be rid of a flatmate when she seems to enjoy having one so much). I have to say, I thought the movie was kind of silly, because there was no way any man would actually have liked Katherine Hegel's character, who just seemed to me mean to him throughout the entire movie. But of course, the whole thing had to have a happy ending, no matter how unrealistic it was!
