C Dogg's Organized Fun and Lavan's Birthday

In the morning, my head and stomach were both really not feeling great, for the second time in as many weeks. Obviously, the "no hangover" rule is being repeatedly violated, and obviously something needs to be done about this! I'd already missed both Body Pump classes at the gym, and was way behind on making my way out to Portobello Road market, which I'd sworn to myself I was going to get up early on Saturday morning and do.

So, fighting my queasy stomach, I got myself up and out to Portobello Road, where I found myself calculating the next dates where I would find it difficult to get away without drinking, and resolve to make it through those and then resort to a complete ban on alcohol.

Portobello Road Market was as crowded as always, and I couldn't really find what I was looking for (although who even knows quite what that was?) but eventually I found a reasonably nice silver tray, and decided to get that and call it a day. I did stop in at Tescos and get myself a ginger beer however, in the hopes that it might settle my stomach a bit, I was doing so poorly!

My late morning then meant I was late to C Dogg's birthday party, arriving at around 4:30 PM when I should have been there at 2 PM. Oh well. Yet, it seemed that everyone was mostly sitting around not doing much, until C Dogg decided that it was time for all of us to play softball (although with some bizarre rules that you only had three chances at bat, and then whether you hit it or not, you had to run). I was pleasantly surprised to discover that I could still hit the ball (thank goodness for that hand-eye coordination), but catching was definitely beyond me, as I spectacularly missed a fly ball in the field.... although I suppose in my defence I'd never had to catch a ball without a mitt before!

It was mostly a lot of fun running around in Regent's Park, and when we took a break to sit around, I was chuffed when C Dogg got out a scarf and laid it on the ground, and insisted it was for just the two of us to sit and chat. I really adore that boy, and am always going to be looking for someone I "bond" with quite as well as I do him. The two of us never seem to run out of things to talk about. Although I had to admit I was pretty shocked when he told someone who randomly asked that it was his 26th birthday. Which I suddenly realised made him the same age as my ex, who ever since that experience I'd always assumed was the marker of what was "too young". I guess this is a recurring question with me anymore, wondering about the question, "How young is too young?"

Although it was difficult to go, at 7:30 I forced myself to leave and make my way to Covent Garden, as I'd promised my old high school friend Lavan that I would go. After all, today was Lavan's birthday, and I hadn't seen him in ages!

When I arrived at Covent Garden, I got a text from Lavan saying they were just finishing up dinner, and to meet him at a pub for drinks. I found him and a few friends standing outside in the summer evening, and joined them all for conversation. I mostly found myself talking with a really cool girl named Christina, who seemed really keen to come hashing. I hope she does, as she seemed like she'd be a lot of fun.

After a bit, Lavan, Christina, and this guy Robbie (who looked exactly like Tiger Woods, that beautiful mixed-race look) made our way to the Churchill Arms. Once there, I ended up talking to Lavan about prostitution and everything that I'd been reading about in the new "Super-Freakanomics" book (although mostly we talked about prostitution). It's really funny, because Lavan and I are so different, but so bonded by our shared history. I love that Lavan always gives it to me straight.

We then ended up chatting with some of the locals in the pub, and finally it seemed like it was getting close to time to go. I decided to pay a visit to the restroom, which was hard to find, as there were plants EVERYWHERE, and it was like fighting through a jungle to get to it! Yet, it was such a lovely restroom, filled with so many flowers and greenery!

Although a young guy we ran into suggested going out to the Supper Club, I was plenty tired (and tired of drinking!) and so went with Christina back towards Notting Hill Gate. I had an amusing little conversation with her about why she thought Lavan was still single (being a female friend who is obviously closer to him than I am), and she concluded that Lavan would have to end up with a girl much younger than he. I do hope he finds a girl who adores him, as he's really such a wonderful guy. Was so great to see such a fantastic old friend again!
