Friday with the Baby

In the morning, my parents went over to my brother's house to take him to the dentist (when you only have one car, it's nice when your folks show up with a second one!), and then afterwards brought him back to the cottage where we were staying so that my brother could see it.

It had actually originally been my idea to rent a place, instead of just staying in a hotel, for I figured with a week-long stay, it would be more economical, and also it was nice to have a place where we could make our own breakfast and go at our own pace, instead of worrying about when housekeeping was going to want to be making up the beds.

So my brother came to see this place, which was actually attached to an old barn that had been converted into an art gallery. So we went to tour the gallery, which was kind of interesting, and very much a classic New England artist's gallery.

We then went back to my brother's house, and my sister-in-law suggested that the two of us take a walk with the stroller down to the local library, as my sister-in-law needed to return a Kindle that she'd borrowed for a week. It was a nice walk, cutely punctuated by my sister-in-law peeking under the blanket to protect my niece from the sun, and declaring, "She's still cute!" As though that needed checking every five minutes...

When we got back to the house, we found my brother and my father ripping up the flooring on the front porch, so we simply went inside and made some lunch, which the boys came and joined us for later.

In the evening, my aunt and uncle stopped by on their way home from UNH, where they'd been dropping off my cousin Kevin to start at university. Apparently it had been a tough day, punctuated by a lot of arguments, but I think they were glad to finally have it over with and looking forward to going home and being empty-nesters for once.

They didn't stay for dinner, but eventually we scrambled something together ourselves, and just as my niece was getting a bit fussy, decided it was time for us to go home too!
