Monday Gym and Cooking

I had the most incredibly slow weekend. I did almost nothing.

On Saturday, there had been talk of going punting, but when I woke up it was pouring rain. I texted DM, as I had promised him I would, to say I wasn't going. I didn't hear back from him, however.

It continued to pour rain all day long, which seemed to reinforce the wisdom of that decision. However I later heard from those who went that it was actually a nice day in Cambridge, with only one brief shower but perfect sunshine for the rest of the time. What a pity, perhaps I should have gone!

Instead, Emily and I just stayed in and watched the movie "Up." Charming film, and really fascinating was watching the "making of" story in the DVD extras. A slow way to spend a Saturday (neither of us left the flat all day), but enjoyable all the same.

Sunday I did a whole load of errands, running around town and walking everywhere, getting to grocery stores at the opposite ends of town, even going all of the way to Whole Foods completely on foot.

Still, it wasn't quite as much exercise as I got on Monday, when I went to Body Pump in the morning, and then went back in the evening for the Core class (basically 20 minutes of sit-ups), and then stayed on for the Spin Class. I even thought about staying on later for the evening Body Pump class, but as I was refilling by water bottle near the DVD rental stand, I saw that I could rent "Julie & Julia" for free. I decided to take that as a sign, and so called it a day on my workout, and instead went home to watch my movie.

First I made a peanut satay for my pasta, making a total wreck of the kitchen, and then popped in the film. I will admit I probably wasn't focused on it as I should be, as the South African popped up online, bored in his hotel near some rural mine outside Johannesburg, and keen for a chat. Ended up talking to him about how I was sure things were going to change for him, and that although things might not go how he expected them to, I doubted he would be working out of hotel rooms in small towns outside of Joburg for too much longer. It was basically a little pep talk about how I had confidence in him, but surprisingly it seemed to make a real difference, he sounded a lot more chipper and upbeat by the end of our chat.

Which did take me away from the movie, but I have to admit it was a good film. Lovely to see the relationship of Paul and Julia Child, which I hadn't realised was so lovely and passionate. Did some reading on Wikipedia afterwards, which is how you always know it was a good film!
