Despite not getting to bed until 5 AM the evening before, I dragged myself up and out of bed by 10 AM in an effort to get errands done and hopefully catch up with the Young Dutchman (as we'd tentatively said we would try to get together today), although in the end that never happened.
My key errands were to gather together the pieces of my costume for the hash Christmas party this evening, where the theme was "What Did You Want to Be When You Grew Up?" I went as an equestrian, with tight britches, boots, a suit jacket, a big cravat that I'd made by cutting up a cheap pillowcase from Primark, and my hair in a low bun, with a whip cut from a stick of a tree and a stick pony that I'd found while out shopping for £5.
I arrived and had a great time admiring everyone else's costumes, although every girl seemed to come as the "sexy" version of something, from nurses to police officers to dentists. (Seriously). I guess lots of girls just pulled a sexy Halloween costume out of their closet for the party! One girl even came as a sexy bank robber, and in her money sack, she kept offering people either candy or condoms. Most people were so taken aback that they took the candy instead of the condoms, although it got quite a few laughs.
I've sometimes thought that I should keep a tally of how much money being a cute girl saves me, as the evening turned into not the first time I've ever gone out without any money and still managed to drink all evening long without spending a penny. My first drink was free with the price of my ticket, Pork Pie bought my next one (I know, amazing, right?), then Matt took care of me, then Oxford Boy offered to get me one, and by the end of the evening Kitty's cousin, who I had just met a few moments before, made sure I finished out the evening with a glass in hand. I never got out my wallet once, and suddenly some of my hangovers make more sense.

When I arrived, exclaiming over everyone's costumes with everyone else, Flo actually made me choke on my drink by pointing at my stick pony and then asking, "But who will you be riding by the end of the evening?" That guy cracks me up, because he seems like the sophisticated Frenchman, but he always has a slightly seductive air about him. Love that, how he rubs your shoulders, always gives you an extra kiss as he walks by, and just is the incredibly flirtatious and charming Frenchman that he is.
I started the evening by spending a lot of time chatting to Oxford Boy, but the truth was that I just wasn't that keen. Particularly once Matt arrived, I was determined to make up for the lost time of how I'd ignored him on Tuesday. So we spent quite a bit of time talking, with him expressing a great deal of frustration that he didn't know any male friends to set me up with. Matt's a real romantic, and I think it irritates him beyond belief that a girl like me should be single.
I did find myself cuddled up with Princess for a while, who just wrapped an arm around me and held me close in conversation for a bit. And while I always do like chatting with Princess, I have to admit the fact that he had long blonde hair with half a bald-cap on for a Hulk Hogan costume was slightly disconcerting.
I then spent some time chatting to Kitty's cousins, who had arrived late, one who was quite handsome and obviously gay, and her cousin Darragh, who I had met once previously and who Kitty thinks I should date. He's definitely a nice guy, but I have to confess I don't feel anything particularly for him.
Finally towards the end of the evening, Matt dragged me out on the dance floor, and we did some spins and whirls, and finally he pulled me into an embrace to finish out the evening dancing to "New York, New York". Bizarrely, that Frank Sinatra classic is what they end practically every party here with. I wonder why that is?

As it was now past midnight, the party was closing down and everybody else seemed to be heading on to another night club. Matt and I had both had enough however, so we decided to head for the Tube. I had to admit I'd had a lot more fun than I'd anticipated, but I think it was mostly due to Matt's good company. There's just something about spending time with friends.
When I caught the train, I discovered that it was the absolute LAST Tube of the night, so was quite relieved to find I was getting home just in time!
