Ages ago I met a guy B at drinks at the Calendonian Club, and he actually started dating someone else, but as our early dates had been so undefined, it remarkably seemed to transition quite smoothly into friendship. At the new year I remembered I hadn't been in touch with him for a while, so I sent him an e-mail wishing him a happy new year, and he responded by suggesting we get together for lunch.
I suggested we meet at a popular burrito place, only realising after we were there that said place was so popular, it was hard to find a decent place to sit. Hence ended up on stools directly in the zone of a draft from the constantly opening door, making for a very chilly lunchtime conversation. Yet it was nice to catch up, even if the banter lacked some of the easy flow of our earlier chats, where we were much warmer!
After our break, I headed back to the office, figuring I would head home afterwards, as I had no plans for the evening. I should know by now that I need to figure the Young Dutchman into my life, because he caught me online and too easily cajoled me into agreeing to make an appearance at the Lansdowne that evening.
Hence after the office I went to the Lansdowne, although was surprised not to see many familiar faces. In fact the only one I knew was the Old South African, who I really did not want to get stuck in conversation with for an hour. Hence I escaped upstairs to the business suite, talked to the Young Dutchman online, and didn't reappear for an hour, when I was sure that he would be present at the club!
Made my way downstairs, saw the Young Dutchman, and we found a few other familiar faces, but not many. Hence, spent some time drinking champagne and carrying on conversation with those people we knew, but wondering what was going on. Had a fun time teasing the Young Dutchman about how everything boys do is ultimately motivated by impressing girls. Had a good little debate over that one, just riling the boys up.
I was also quite confused when the Old South African gave me a huge long explanation about how I needed to call the embassy to get tickets for Henley this year, although I think that was for the stewards enclosure, and I really just don't know anybody who knows anybody with access to the stewards enclosure. Hence, while I appreciate his watching out for me, I think it was somewhat useless advice, as it would be a bit useless for me to call the US embassy for Henley tickets!
Finally, just tired and bored, made my excuses to head home. Ran into Fiona and a few others as I was leaving, but stuck to my guns and headed out, ready to be done with my busy week!
