I'd somehow gotten suckered into going to a lunch at the O&C with some of the more boring girls at the club. The only upside was that Doro had also been conned into going, so I figured it would be good at least to see her. Unfortunately, she'd lost a very important locket whilst out the night before, so she cancelled to go look for it, leaving me on my own to face the crowds.
I unfortunately got going late (you would think I wouldn't have much trouble arriving for a 1 PM lunch, even after being out until 3 AM the night before), but only made it to the club at 1:05 PM, where the other girls were already seated and had ordered. I quickly picked out my selections (a tomato and basil salad, and a mushroom risotto), as one of the girls, Laura, had to leave early to go to a fencing lesson.
I managed to get it out of G that they'd ordered starters (why does nobody realise that simply telling people, "You should have whatever you want" is bloody useless, particularly if you are about to condemn someone to eating a starter all by themselves. In fact, it's just downright rude), and then waited for the meal to arrive.
Three of us got our food, but the girl who needed to leave found herself waiting, which was annoying. Finally got her food, she left, and then the rest of us went on to the main course, except they brought out food for two and then not for me! It was insane, I would guess I waited a full 15 minutes for my food to arrive, as it was obvious that the dining room was operating under no management or supervision. In total, it took us nearly 3 hours to get through a three-course meal. Perhaps I wouldn't have been so annoyed if the company had been better, but it was mostly just listening to the girls moan about being single. Now I'll admit that sometimes I'm not totally thrilled with my personal state of affairs myself, but I try not to just go on and on about it. I'm not a guy, but I can't imagine it's all that attractive to just listen to a girl's self-indulgent pity-party.
Finally we made it through lunch, and then I got them to come up to the library as I looked for books (as there was no way I was going to indulge G's wish to go for a walk in the park - I was bored AND it was freezing out!) Found a few interesting tomes, which of course as soon as I had them, the others seemed to want them, as though suddenly realising for the first time that there are interesting books available at the club library.
We then went down to the drawing room to chat some more, and my patience was really wearing thin at this point. Hence, when a few others began yawning, I took that as my opportunity for escape, and begged off, saying it was time I headed home. Free from the tyranny of boredom at last!!
