This evening was the Inter-Club Committee meeting at the Savile Club, which I now find myself on due to my role as the Chairman of the Younger Member's Committee at my club. I'd really hoped to avoid this, and wanted another chap on the Committee to go, but he rarely seems able to go to anything these days, and hence is not much use.
I arrived at the Savile right at the appointed time, ran into GJ, a chap who is one of my favourite people (very clever Scotsman who is always interesting to talk to), and we found a few others and made our way upstairs to the meeting room. GJ and I sat together to talk, while the others slowly filled in around the round table.
My heart sank a bit when the obnoxious chap who had hosted his birthday party at the swingers house joined, and I waited in panic to see if he would sit in the empty chair next to me. Thankfully, he did not, although he sat only two seats away, which is still closer than I would have liked.
For as soon as he walked into the meeting room, upon seeing that there was only water, threw up a huge fuss, and insisted on going to get wine, which of course he proceeded to get drunk on during the course of the meeting. He then interrupted every single speaker at every single turn, and you could tell that the chair was constantly struggling to keep him in line.
I just kept getting more and more annoyed as the meeting dragged on due to his incessant need to interrupt at every turn, and as we started to run beyond the meeting's designated finish time. One good thing about the wine, is it helped calm me and keep my mind off of how irritated I was, as GJ next to me made sure to constantly top up my glass. And then, as I whispered under my breath to the girl next to me to joke about how I was obviously copying her notes, the irritating boy had the gall to reach over two people and tap me on the shoulder to rebuke me for whispering. ARE YOU F-ING KIDDING ME???
Thank goodness we were nearly at the end of the meeting, as I was so irritated at this point that it was taking quite a bit of resolve not to simply walk out on the whole thing. I had originally said I was staying for dinner, but upon realising that the irritating chap was staying, there was no way I was going to suffer through an entire meal with him.
Once the meeting was adjourned, GJ asked if I was leaving, and seeing the opportunity to escape, I asked him to wait for me. We said a few good-byes, and then as we were exiting the room, the irritating boy absolutely yelled out across the room, "You look amazing in your swimsuit! You should wear it more often! I love your chest!!"
I was so stunned at the amazing inappropriateness, I couldn't think of any reaction except to exit the room as quickly as possible. GJ joined me quickly afterwards, and whispered to me, "Did he actually just say that?"
I was almost relieved, as I'd been so shocked at the inappropriate comment that I wondered if I had simply imagined it. We made a quick exit from the club, and ranted to each other the whole way back to the Tube station about how irritating and destructive this chap is.
When I arrived back at my flat, I received a message from the Young Scotsman, where he said, "Great to see you. Saw yourself and GJ roll your eyes simultaneously at [Irritating Boy]. Classic."
That made me laugh, and a little sorry I hadn't had more of an opportunity to catch up with him. He then surprised me by continuing to tell me, "Got invited to a 'nine some ' on the 21st October. Got other plans......."
In my innocence, I didn't quite understand what he was talking about, and assumed that Irritating Boy had invited him to some sort of strange dinner party. Which he quickly corrected my mistake by explaining it was "An orgy at his. Admittedly a very specific number. I struggle to perform as it is without his nudity and a bunch of strangers. More worryingly strangers who are friends and sexual partners of [Irritating Boy]."
Oh, ewwwww!!! How gross! I was almost surprised at how calmly the Young Scotsman told me about it, as I would struggle to relate that story to anyone without feeling exceedingly icky that I'd even been asked. GJ had intimated to me that we should do what we can to make sure Irritating Boy is sidelined as much as possible...I wonder how long that would take?
