Friday with the Rules Back

The Lansdowne had sent out an e-mail to all of the U35 members of the club, reminding everyone that guests needed to be signed in and that drinks needed to be paid for by a member on Fridays. Online, it caused quite a stir and generated quite a bit of debate, but most everyone seemed to be in general agreement that we are a private members club, and hence it makes sense that we should have a stricter door policy. After the whole debacle with Drunk Girl, I welcomed the tightening up of the rules, and made sure everyone online knew that.

After we'd exchanged numbers on Tuesday, I'd hoped to go out this evening with CBDG, but didn't hear from him all day at work. Finally I texted him at 5 PM to see what was up, but got no response from him. At least I'm never a girl without back-up plans, so it seemed like it would be a good night to check out how the new rules were working out at the club.

I arrived at around 7:30 PM, where I was checked at the door, and I thanked the staff member there checking. After all, I'm sure it's got to be tough to suddenly have this big change in policy, so I wanted to make sure the staff know it's appreciated.

I got to the bar where I met up with Sarah, Piers, Mr Douglas....basically all the usual suspects. Although I do have to admit that the bar was less crowded than usual, so I could actually get in and get a drink, and I didn't spot a single person inappropriately dressed. What a welcome change!

I did have a slightly awkward moment when that well-connected doctor friend of mine showed up, as he'd invited me out to a lecture earlier this evening (which I had turned him down for, thinking I still might go out with CBDG). I did agree to go with him to another lecture in March, and I do worry at times about whether he understands that my interest is purely friendly. However, he just seemed happy to see me, and ended up giving me some women's sports vitamins for my squash game with Sophie the next day. (No really).

I found myself mostly chatting with one of the South African posse and Witty Windsor Guy. I mentioned that I though their friend Nick, who I'd met at that "In with the new" party last week was pretty nice. They raise eyebrows at that one and tease me a bit, but I won't be drawn into saying anything more than I thought that he was a nice guy.

I mostly found myself chatting with Sophie (my favourite person) who suggested at one point that we both take a trip to the ladies room. Once there, I discovered that I had a missed text from CBDG. I then spent some time texting back and forth with him while sitting and chatting with Sophie in the ladies room, which Sophie found highly entertaining. By the time I left the powder room with Sophie, we appeared to have a plan to meet up on Sunday.

It was then getting late at the Lansdowne, and the South African was apparently over at Mahiki getting drunk, so we went there to go find him. When it came to getting in, they told us that there would be a £250 minimum spend for a table at that point, which we just couldn't be bothered with. Seriously, I've never liked Mahiki or nightclubs in general...I have no idea why people go for these places.

So everyone started calling the South African to see if we could get him to come outside. And as they all were doing so, being so focused on getting him on the phone, that nobody seemed to notice that he already was outside, chatting on his phone. While everyone stayed focused on their phones, I ran outside across the street, stood in front of him and exclaimed, "I know you!" At which point he very drunkenly wrapped me up in a huge bear hug. Very funny.

We then at this point agreed to go to the 151, so I hopped into a cab with Sophie and Witty Windsor Boy. Yet, as we headed out towards the King's Road, Witty Windsor Boy and I managed to convince Sophie that it might make more sense to just head home, and so they dropped me off at my place. On the way, Witty Windsor Boy mentions he wants to set me up with his friend Paddy. Sophie got excited about the idea of a double-date for their entertainment, as apparently this Paddy guy is rather clever, and they liked the idea of setting him up with a girl who was smarter than he was. I have to admit it sounds amusing. And who wouldn't go on a date for the entertainment of their friends? We'll see if that happens...
