Blacklisting the Lansdowne

I spent the entire day frustrated that the Tall South African had not called yesterday or today, or in fact since he hung up on me on Tuesday night. Then, as I found myself bothered and distracted by him not calling, I was annoyed with myself for being hung up on whether or not a boy was going to call me. Since when was I ever the type of girl who worried about a boy calling?

I realised later in the day as I talked to the Young Dutchman, that while the Tall South African might be ignoring me lately, there is still one boy who has continued to call and talk to me every day all this time. In fact, as I thought about it, he had called me every day this past week, and I'd been too hung up on the Tall South African to even notice. He entertained me all day, telling me stories, and then encouraged me to bunk off work early so that he could see me before he had to go back to Oxford. And even as everyone else was demanding bits of his time, he always had time for me. I must remember, that this is the behaviour of a boy who really loves me, and who is worth my time. I must remember that.

So, in keeping my promise to the Young Dutchman, I dashed off of work early and got to the Lansdowne (later than I'd said I would be, of course, despite my efforts to leave sooner), yet was still glad to get the opportunity to sit with the Young Dutchman and catch up a bit in person. I mean, we do talk every day, but there's still something about seeing somebody in person to catch up.

Given that I'd still arrived relatively early (all things considered), I was able to join in the discussion at the table of all Lansdowne members, where we discussed how irritated we were with the number of non-members coming in (and of course, the Young Dutchman and I had one person in mind in particular). As well, we talked about the declining dress standards, and how we felt it had made the club seem more "chavvy". I joked with people, "Oh, let's see how long Drunk Girl's skirt is when she shows up later." Yes, as you might imagine, when she did put in an appearance, she was flashing her knickers to the entire world every time she sat down. {Sigh!} Who really needs to see that?

As we were making our round-robin complaints, the Young Dutchman talked about how he was planning on putting a blacklist in place for the springtime. And I asked, "But can you actually make it enforced?" I was surprised at how threatening his tone seemed when he said, "Watch me."

Given that we were talking about the misbehaviour of certain people, Will started talking about the incident of Drunk Girl getting caught having sex in Lotte's bed, but said, "We just don't know who the 'lucky' guy was. Although would you really call that lucky?"

I laughed and told him it had been the Tall South African (who he didn't know), only as soon as I said it, I realised I shouldn't have said anything, as long as his name was out of it originally. Because let's face it, people might eventually figure out that I'm associated with the Tall South African. It becomes even more clear how much I'm playing with fire with my own reputation, I've got to be careful. No telling anyone, no letting anybody know I know him... And must find a more appropriate guy to keep me from getting into trouble!

Then, continuing the trend of scandalous stories, Georgie decided to tell me a good one about Navy Boy. From Caroline's experience of going out with him, I'd just figured him for a sweet guy who never gets the girl. But apparently he invited himself to Georgie's house, she cooked dinner for them, and then he insisted on staying overnight. She said thank goodness she had her period, so nothing could really happen. Ah yes, the good ol' period can sometimes enforce good behaviour! Said he has "the body of Baywatch, but not the face to match." Apparently waking up in the morning curled up in his arms she said was amazing, his body was so incredible and his arms were so perfectly muscular and defined. But now she was hearing that he'd been out with Caroline, and then she also knew that he'd gone home with some girl after Sophie's birthday party last Friday...I'd had no idea he was such the player! Definitely changed my opinion of him quite a bit...

Then Navy Boy arrived (speak of the devil!), so I chatted to him and his friends for a bit, still reeling a bit internally from the revelations I'd just had. They were all out celebrating Navy Boy resigning from the Navy earlier that week, so were in quite a good mood. They got some champagne, and had very kindly gotten a glass for me and were sharing some with me. As they were pouring, Drunk Girl (who had arrived by this point), charged into the middle of the circle and demanded, "I want some of that!"

The boy holding the champagne bottle, quite surprised (he'd never met Drunk Girl before in his life), gently tried pointing out to her that she was already holding a pretty full glass of white wine. To which she replied, "Oh, it's okay, you can mix them!" which I think had everyone in the crowd silently thinking, "Really? Ummm...not where I'm from..."

The poor boy I think was too shocked to protest, and poured some into her glass. (Eeewww!) At which point, she then turned her back to half the crowd, effectively cutting me and two other guys out of the conversation. Leaving us all kind of dumbfounded, but unsure how to even handle this grotesque behaviour.

Given that she was still standing quite near me, practically shrieking in my ear, it didn't take long for me to decide that I'd had enough. Time to go home. I made my excuses, said good-bye to people in the bar, getting dragged into conversations as I was desperately trying to leave. The Player Doctor Guy I'd been talking to at the friend's birthday party right before New Year's accosted me and asked me if he could invite me to some events...I said I was pretty busy but agreed that he should e-mail me. I was mostly ready to agree to anything at this point as long as it would get me out of the club!

When I made it home, I checked in online with the Young Dutchman to engage in a bit of banter and tell him the horror stories of the evening from after he'd left to return to Oxford. I asked him if he had spoken to Lotte at all about any of this, and he told me that he'd had "the talk" with her, and Lotte is on our side. Thank God.

Went to bed realising that there's still been no word from the Tall South African since Tuesday, but for today, I think that is fine. I originally had forgiven him for the poor judgment call of sleeping with Drunk Girl, but now I think I'm reconsidering it. Do I really want to be associated with any boy who would sleep with THAT? Yeah, maybe not...
