Slow Days At Home

When I stumbled through my front door on Sunday, I was surprised that it was noon and the Young Dutchman was still asleep on the floor. There was the detritus of white-tie strewn everywhere, and apparently he had arrived home at 3 AM, and hence was still recovering. True, but I'd been out nearly as late, and yet had been up since 7 AM and had made my way home already!

I debated simply going out to IKEA to buy a new lamp, but then realised the much better option was to shower, go grocery shopping, and then spend the day sitting on the couch with the Young Dutchman watching funny television shows. No joke, that's pretty much all we did all day, was sit side-by-side on that couch.

It was funny how, despite feeling incredibly chipper and perky all morning, I suddenly hit a wall in the evening. Managed to keep it together to cook dinner, and then as we were watching downloaded shows on the internet, the Young Dutchman put a pillow up in between us so I could just fall asleep on him. No way could I stay upright.

(Although I had to laugh at that, as I've realised after my experience at the wedding, that everybody out there must assume we're sleeping together. After all, we're close anyway and now we're living together in a studio flat. Yet the truth is, the Young Dutchman seriously avoids any unnecessary physical contact, like even giving me a pillow rather than letting me lean on him directly. I mean, I don't mind, because I know that he's not really my type and it would introduce a lot of awkwardness into things, but it still kind of cracks me up, those little boundaries he introduces...)

Still, I make him earn his keep in other ways, like then on Monday when I made him change all of the lightbulbs in the place. He's Dutch, so he's tall (much taller than I am), and I figured that was something good to do with him!

Overall a pretty quiet day with both of us working from home, and trying to get things done. I went out to get things for dinner, we ate together, watched some TV, and headed off to bed at midnight. Wouldn't want to do this every day, but for a break it's kind of nice. Back into action tomorrow!
