Meetings, Meetings Everywhere!

Today was an office day, so I actually got up early, got myself through the shower, and into work clothes before 9 AM. The Young Dutchman was still in bed when I left, so I gave him a kiss on the cheek and wished him a good day. (Yes, for the most part our relationship is like that of a mother and child. Although I hear from most women that taking on a boy in your life is just like acquiring another child. I can see why they say that).

Got to the office, found myself a desk (despite arriving somewhat late in the day), and settled down into the most frantic work day ever. I couldn't believe it when 4 PM rolled around, as I felt like I'd just arrived. I had to dash upstairs to a private office to run a conference call meeting, where I was running the show for about 50 people. My boss (who was on the call) afterwards said that it went really well, and she thought that everyone was really impressed.

Yet, at 5:30 PM, I had to race out of the office to get to the O&C. I saw the Wild Welshman briefly outside, but didn't get a chance to talk to him as he was on the phone. Instead, I went in to the General Committee meeting, where I had to face down the worst panel of old men, who really were cranky and resistant to the idea of new technology. Originally the plan had been that I might offer to join that committee to make sure there was a Younger Member's Committee rep on it, but I suddenly realised that there was no way I could survive, as a young girl, putting up with all of those old men.

Luckily after an hour they let me go, and I stopped in the Business Suite to check my e-mails and make a few quick notes. I was pleasantly surprised to see a note from a boy I'd met ages ago, suggesting we get together for drinks. He's been a bit flaky in the past, so I doubt it will actually happen, but it was nice even that he asked. Just the little ego boost that I needed, after last night's somewhat awkward date.

I then walked 30 minutes (in heels!) to the pub where the Hash Committee was meeting, ready to give my report as a banker of the club. I got a big cheer as I arrived, and Sthweetheart immediately insisted I sit with him. I had arrived already an hour late, although would you believe the meeting went on for another hour after that? We never have two-hour meetings at work, so this was a bit ridiculous. It was also quite loud at the pub, so it was hard to hear what people were saying. I therefore just ended up in side conversations with Sthweetheart, who was as overly flirtatious as usual. Add into that being joined by Plank, who was wrapping his arm around me saying how good it was to see me, and it was some good validation from boys for the evening.

Getting bored after an hour (I'd told the Young Dutchman I would try to be done by 8 PM, and now it was 9 PM) I drove the meeting to a close, walked to the Tube station with Bum Bandit, and took the train home with him and Sthweetheart.

Arrived at home in the hopes that since I'd been chatting with the Young Dutchman earlier about dinner, that he might have done something, but that was apparently a foolish hope. Annoying, but I will leave it up to some other girl to teach him how to behave appropriately. Instead, I felt like my mother from when I was a child, stumbling in the door at 9:45 PM after a long, exhausting day at the office, and then rustling through the kitchen to come up with dinner. Made a decent chicken, risotto, and broccoli spread, and then we finished out the evening watching the final episode of "Entourage" on the sofa. He didn't do the dishes, and I couldn't be bothered, so left them until the morning. I love that boy, but I'm quickly realising the importance of living with someone first before committing to them for life...you can lay down some ground rules about who does the cooking! But that's a challenge for another girl, as I get to send him off tomorrow to be another girl's problem!
