Meetings and PacMan

As per usual, I'd managed to double-book myself today. And as per usual, I figured I could magically make it to both events. Really, at some point people will convince me that I can't clone myself, but today was not that day.

First up was the Younger Member's Committee meeting at the club. It was the first time I'd been back to the club since the August closure, and I was truly impressed with the refurbishment work that they had done. When I arrived, in the front hallway I ran into a guy I proposed for membership at one of those cocktail party evenings, and have seen a few times since, but darn if I can't remember his name! Didn't do any better here either, as I finally just introduced myself to his friend, since I couldn't come up with the first guy's name and I wanted to save myself the embarrassment. Gosh, for someone who prides herself on generally being good with names, that was kind of mortifying...

I managed to get through the meeting and make all of the points I wanted to make, although it did occur to me that the same meeting at work would have taken just 20 minutes. I suppose it's because everyone there isn't the type who normally does meetings (it was run by a professional doll-maker who hates public speaking and who had a terrible tendency to let her voice drop below the level of a whisper), but at least I was able to get a few laughs from people and get through the things I needed to cover.

On the way out, I did get a chance to chat a bit with the Wild Welshman. I think I'm back in one of my "what a dear friend he is!" stages, so it was nice to just share stories of my time in Edinburgh and catch up. I texted him later in the evening to apologize for running out early (I had to get to the hash), and he apologized for being so quiet, as apparently he was tired and it had been a tough day at work. So just like Joel, someone I can always touch in with...

Finally the meeting was over at 8 PM, so it was time to run over to the hash for our annual PacMan run. I'd been texting DM earlier in the day to try to encourage him to come, but an absolute downpour late in the afternoon put him off. Kind of did me too, but I hope I manage to get DM out for something before too long, as I haven't seen him in ages!

I arrived just at the end of the running around bit, but still in time to chat with people (despite that I was tellingly un-sweaty!) and was grateful to see Matt there, always my favourite person to talk to. We spent a little while catching up, I sorted a cheque out for the AGPU (still dealing with my responsibilities as the hash banker), and finally I was just cold and had forgotten to bring a sweater, so when Matt looked like he was leaving, I went with him. Sort of a pity, as the PacMan run is normally the best one for meeting new people, but this year I'd just sort of missed the party. Time to head home!
