So I heard from Neighbour Guy again yesterday morning, except he was writing just to ask me if I'd gotten tickets to the Christmas ball, because apparently he'd missed out. So boo on that for two reasons:
1. Now I won't get to see Neighbour Guy at the ball
2. He was just writing to ask me about silly tickets, not to ask me out for a drink!
Oh well, I'm busy the rest of this week anyway, but if there's no action by next week, may have to suggest a drink myself. But that would be a pity, as if I do the asking it will mean we're friends. Although I need to ask Joel about this, as Joel keeps telling me that British men don't operate by the same "He's Just Not That Into You" rules as American men do, so perhaps this is just one more instance where I really don't understand what's going on.
Same thing turns out to be true for the lovely group of Magdalene folks who I met at the same dinner, making me wonder how on earth I was lucky enough to get a ticket, and who on earth I'm going to talk to once I'm actually at the event!
I had been meaning to spend more of my day working on my novel for NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), as I'm falling terribly behind. I'm supposed to try and write a 50,000 word novel by November 30, and I'm only at 3,000 words, when at this point I should be at 8,000. This whole "writing a novel" thing is tougher than it looks!
Of course, it wasn't made any easier by the fact that my flatmate sat me down for a discussion, saying that the sound of me typing in the living room was driving her crazy, and told me I need to lock myself in my room when I wanted to work on my computer. Given that my room is barely bigger than my double bed, this is not really a fun place for me to hang out. Yet, my flatmate owns the place, so it's not quite like an equal relationship with another flatmate where you can just tell them that they're crazy. (She admits she's a little OCD, although I think she doesn't realise quite how bad her OCD really is. Still, makes me realise why living with someone is such a great way to get to know someone, as I wonder how long I could date a guy before I learned he was OCD? Not sure I could handle that...)
Hence, I think I'm probably not going to see my flatmate all that much over the next few weeks, as it's a bad time to take on a writing project right when you are told that you can't type in the common room! Oh well, maybe it will encourage me to spend some more time either at the library or at my club so I can write!
Finally, just on a whim, I did what I've been doing a lot recently, and checked the prices on American Airlines for a ticket to Boston for Thanksgiving. Imagine my surprise when I saw the prices had DROPPED, quite significantly! So I had this moment of truth, where I looked at my calendar, and realised I didn't really have anything going on for the entire week of Thanksgiving, so why not just go? So I bought the tickets.
I actually haven't told my parents yet, and I'm kind of wondering if I should keep it as a Thanksgiving surprise. It sure would shock my mother to see me there!
