I'm going to the christening of the daughter of my friends Emily and Toby on Friday, and when my friend Emily wished me a Happy Birthday on Facebook yesterday, she suggested I come over for a girly evening of putting together cake boxes. Although I had no idea what she was talking about, I was game, so why not?
I arrived and found immediately that I'd made somewhat of an error, because I'd worn a somewhat short skirt when everyone was sitting on the floor to do these cake boxes. I kept trying to arrange myself in somewhat graceful positions, but there was really nothing for it, I should have worn a more long and flowing skirt if I'd known!
Still, it was a lovely time chatting with people, including an American girl who was SUCH the classic Southern Girl, down to her perfect make-up and pearl earrings. I had to really admire her style though, I wish I could always look that perfectly put together.

Our hostess' little boy kept getting up out of bed to show off new outfits that he'd put together, despite his mother continually telling him that he needed to go back to bed. It did make me realise how important it is to raise children with consistent discipline, and make sure they are well-mannered, as this mother obviously had no control over her child. And while it was cute at first, it quickly became tiring.
But I can imagine why it had all been a bit confusing for the boy, as for some reason one of the girls became really fascinated with the idea of playing with the little boy's Legos, and so whilst he was in bed, we had an entire crowd of girls playing with his toys. Kind of funny, and a fabulous return to childhood, to play with some toys again.
Finally, my hostess presented me with a birthday gift (how thoughtful!) and finally we finished up the cake boxes and made our way home. Looking forward to the party on Friday!
