Jo's Birthday

After last weekend's graduation in Oxford, my friend Jo (who I had stayed with in Melbourne) was turning 30, and so scheduled some drinks for those of us in London to come to. A nice time, even if it was a bit chilly outside. I ended up chatting with a young gay guy, who commented with surprise when I got a Guinness, but I informed him that it was actually the most girly drink of them all, being that it had fewer calories and it's heaviness forced you to sip it slowly.

As the conversation turned around, I ended up chatting to a lovely engaged couple, hearing the story of how he'd proposed in Hyde Park after a snowstorm, but she'd had a suspicion of what was up, and kept asking to put her hands in his pocket where he had the ring, claiming she was chilly. And of course, he was having a most impossible time telling her that she couldn't, because he didn't want her to feel the ring! Overall, a funny and charming story, and makes you smile realising how well they bantered along together.

Another friend had brought her child, but would you believe it, apparently kids weren't allowed in the bar after 6 PM? A nice bouncer let us keep on until about 9 PM, but then the kid really had to go. I then used that departure as my opportunity to make it home, for although it had been a nice evening out, bedtime was definitely beckoning!
