Friending Girls

As much as we focus on the intricacies of the male-female romantic getting-to-know-you dance, I also find it funny how we make new female friends too. I've heard some of my friends who are mothers talk about this, the nervousness of hoping that the other mommies like them, of making new friends with other mothers. So how do you make friends with girls?

After running into Doro at last night's drinks reception, I sent her a quick note saying how nice it had been to see her. And so then I was almost surprised at the little thrill I got when she wrote back saying how thrilled she had been to see me as well. I can't say much for her friend Elana, but I really like Doro, and I hope I get a chance to keep getting to know her better.

Then I was surprised at work when I got an e-mail out of the blue from a girl I'd met at one of these inter-club events a few weeks ago, asking if I were going to be at the Christmas ball and saying how she was looking forward to seeing me again. Silly that I should be so excited about that, but I had been thinking of e-mailing her, and so was ridiculously pleased that she did so first. Funny how that "they like me!" excitement feeling can apply with girls as well as boys!

I guess that's something to keep in mind as I go to all of these events, that I might meet a nice boy, but then again if I'm lucky I might meet some nice girls too!
