Today was another day of non-stop rain, and so I spent it mostly indoors working. I had physio in the afternoon, where luckily my lack of work this past week didn't get too much notice. However, I do think it's important that I get on that.
I texted a bit with the Tall South African during the day (and reminded him that it's Freedom Day in South Africa tomorrow), and then gave him a call later in the evening. Missed him, he called me back, missed me, and we finally connected around 10 PM.
He sounded absolutely exhausted however, yawning and dealing with interruptions from work, saying that he was finding talking to friends tiring, as everybody had something going wrong that needed his sympathy. He even seemed to think I was mad at him for not calling, which absolutely surprised me because nothing could be further from the truth. When had I ever given that impression? In truth, I'd been feeling guilty for not calling, imagining him at home with nobody to talk to, calling me while I was out painting the town.
Oh well, once again a reminder of how young he is. Other girls are mad at him, so I must be grouped in with them. He sees things a bit too much from his own perspective, so the reality of what is true won't change things. But I did assure him that all was well with me, and then signed off telling him, "If you don't hear from me for a while, it's not because I don't care, but because I know you're busy." I felt like I was saying good-bye for a little while, which I feel I need.
I was just struck how when we talk, it's not like the conversation I was having last night, or the conversations I have with the Young Dutchman. It's just not interesting. They say absence makes the heart grow fonder? Maybe time to be absent from the Tall South African for a while until he gets more interesting.
