This evening was a Christmas Carol service at a church in Chelsea, that I heard about through the classic Facebook feature "Friends events", and so even though I wasn't invited directly, there were going to be people there that I knew, and I'd been meaning to get to a carol service this year.
I arrived a half-hour before the service was due to start, and to my surprise found the chancel of the church nearly entirely packed. Yet, it was my good fortune that I ran into Gordon, and he had an empty seat next to him. So we chatted and kept up some conversation until Veronica (an Argentinean girl who is also part of our larger group) arrived, and then it was time for the service to start.
It was such a shame that I'm still fighting off this cough, as my voice was quite hoarse for all of the singing! Normally singing Christmas carols is one of my favourite things of the year, but I swear I was just trying not to break out into coughing fits for most of the songs.
After the carols, we hung around with Super Nice Guy and his girlfriend, drinking mulled wine and eating mince pies. After that, we all walked down to the Thomas Cubbitt for a drink, so a one-hour church service eventually turned into a 5-hour evening out! At least I got some spiritual uplift on my Sunday...
