Panama - Parque Nacional Soberanía and Canal

Panama is known also for it's jungles, so the next day we went hiking in Parque Nacional Soberania, where we once again managed to pay the local rate for the entrace fee instead of the foriegner rate... The hike was beautiful (if hot) and we had a fascinating time watching all of the army ants go by, and having some fun building "dams" for them to climb over. Army ants are really amazing in their determination and engineering efficiency!

We then got to see another engineering marvel that afternoon, when we went to go check out the Panama Canal. The whole thing was absolutely awe-inspiring, as we watched a giant cruise ship pass through the locks, being gradually lowered down by the water and moved through the locks by the locomotives. Although as we watched this cruise ship pass through the canal, we had to wonder why so many elderly couples chose to wave to the crowds from their cabin balconies whilst wearing Speedoes, or even (gulp!) tidy-whities? Definitely a sight to behold!
